The tour begins for real in Barcelona, Spain, in the first official E Street Band show since 1988.
April-June 1999
The E Street Band tour rolls through Europe playing 36 shows in 26 cities.
July 15 1999
A stand of 15 sold-out homecoming shows at the Meadowlands in New Jersey begins. During the stand an anonymous fan becomes the one millionth person to see Bruce in this arena since it was opened in 1981.
August-September 1999
The tour continues from New Jersey to selected cities on the East Coast. The multiple night stands during this part of the tour give Bruce the opportunity to debut countless songs, many of which have not been played since the Eighties or Seventies if at all.
September 23 1999
Bruce turns 50 years old.
October-November 1999
The final stages of the 1999 US tour are spent on the West Coast and in the Mid-West. After a three-night stand in Oakland, Patti Scialfa perforates an ear drum on a plane flight and misses the next couple of weeks of the tour.
November 29 1999
The 1999 tour ends in Minneapolis, MN, but Bruce tells the crowd he will be back on the road in 2000.
February 28 2000
After the winter break the tour resumes at the Bryce Jordan Center, PA.
March-June 2000
The tour rolls through North American arenas with increasing intensity and many rarities in the setlist.
June 4 2000
At Philips Arena in Atlanta Bruce debuts two brand new songs, "Further On (Up the Road)" and "American Skin (41 Shots)". The latter is based on an incident where a young immigrant was killed by the New York City police with 41 bullets. Despite never having heard the song this causes members of the NYPD to call for a boycott of Bruce's upcoming shows at Madison Square Garden in New York. A huge controversy follows in newspaper columns and television news broadcasts.
