NigelM writes: Yes, I was there too. Saw four on the tour, this Santiago and the fantastic NY shows. Thought Bruce was tired and the voice showed, apparently they drove late at night from Glastonbury so not surprising really. Watch Steve on this - he was on fire, probably the most animated I have seen him for a long time. Like all Bruce shows it is great fun, perhaps not the best, but who cares this is Springsteen, hard to beat!
Kavana writes: Nick, Of course we're all going to enjoy the DVD
and are thankful for 'product'. But I still find it very strange that in a show that was filmed and being presented chronologically from beginning to end would leave out any song - and more so Rosie. (Incidentally, I still can't understand why John Henry was left off LID either) Is it perhaps because they didnt' get a good 'take' into the can? And I agree with NigelM - like all Bruce shows it'll be great, irrespective of whether or not it's his best show. It'll still be much better than most other concerts out there.
Kavana writes: According to BS.net Rosalita is now included on the DVD - no. 22 on the setlisting

gpjmoss writes: This is a disgraceful marketing act - as many others have said - in the middle of a recession. To put rare singles on limited release is pathetic and shows that Bruce is not showing much really understanding of his fan base, and the type of people who will pay well over the odds for these records. Both this, and last, years releases for Record Store Day are selling for £25-50GBP on eBay.

Thanks, Bruce, a cynical piece of marketing which I never expected from you. To do it once was bad enough, but twice...

Hang on, though, we had the travesty of the Wal-Mart greatest hits compilation, which back-fired. These cynical exploitations of fans via the shoddy Record Store Day should not be repeated.
Goerge W. writes: @ A Vet: He didn't write the song speaking in the 3rd person did he? "I had a brother at Khe Sahn..." "Shipped me off to a foreign land..." But my main point is that he released the song in 1984 at a time when the economy was getting better each day, the unemployment was declining, interest rates were dropping (remember 14% rates on mortgages during the Carter years) & we had a president who was very simpathetic to the Vietnam Vets & the families of those POW/MIA. The article was "The RIGHT finally understands 'Born in the USA." But I think the left, in this case Bruce are the one who didn't & don't understand. If he had released it in '77 or '78 it would have been much more relevant. As I said before, he doesn't write from his own personal 1st hand experience. Look at things now, how the left doesn't support our troops & vets in the current world. They'd rather cut budgets, procrastinate on military decisions, prosecute Navy Seals for doing their jobs & treat terrorists like they were citizens. I don't hear B.S. writing anyhting about those injustices!!
And I want to thank you for your service to our great country. We have the luxury of voicing our different opinions because good people like yourself are willing to stand up & fight to protect those rights. That certainly should never be forgotten.Thank you!

Bruce has said he only was really influenced by the 65-66 era Dylan, but loves all Guthrie and Hank music. Guthrie and Hank were responsible for most of The River, Nebraska, and some of the theme of BITUSA.

I disagree with all this nonsense about how tired he was. On the other hand I think he can be forgiven that he has no longer got the energy of a 30 year old especially as he did not get off stage until about 1am the same day at glastonbury. Nearly 6 hours of rock and roll in 24 hours for a 59 year old can't be too bad can it?

I also disagree about the set list. In all my years of seeing Springsteen I don't think I have ever seen such a set list that spans monst of his catalogue.

For all your doubters I would say go and watch Robbie Williams and Take That. But on the 22nd of June this London boy will be taking the day off to relive a glorious, unforgetable day in my home town.

Peace

Frankie writes: It's an utter pile of s**t on every conceivable level. If Bruce didn't have the monumental greatness of his first 8 studio albums (Greetings thru Tunnel) to fall back on, he would be long forgotten. Fortunately, those are so off-the-scale great we can (maybe) forget the Working On A Dream disaster.
ED writes: thats nonsense frankie, the rising was a fantastic album!!! so to were ghost of tom joad (youngstown??)and devils and dust to a lesser extent.
Outlaw Pete writes: Frankie that's only your opinion, not fact. Kingdom of Days would make it onto my all time top ten, as would The Wrestler. As for the records after Tunnel..., Human Touch, If I Should Fall Behind, I Wish I Were Blind, The Rising, Lonesome Day, Radio Nowhere, Girls In Their Summer Clothes, Jesus Was An Only Son...all these songs can stand shoulder to shoulder with Born To Run etc. It ain't the '70's and '80's anymore, and Bruce has every right to move on and express himself however he chooses. He shares his music with us, and if you don't like it, that's fine, but plenty others do.
spanish johnny 68 writes: frankie i totally disagree with your outrageously stupid opinion!! How can you say an album like the rising would ever be forgotten?? Its a bizzare statement on your behalf. Songs like My city of ruins and the rising will go down with his best songs.
Go Terps writes: The things that separate Bruce from the rest is that he has grown up. he doesn't sing songs about being a romantic kid on the Jersey boardwalk. Frankie needs to listen to the Rolling Stones,Paul McCartney and other lame rockers who were past their prime in 1975.It's too bad Frankie has a great Bruce song name Frankie. He doesn't deserve it. Frankie needs to put on ihs T-shirt and bandanna and go back to 1984 and listen to Wham. The rest of us have grown up and understand what Bruce is all about.
Frankie writes: Remember, when I mentioned the first 8 studio albums the words I used were "monumental greatness" and "off-the-scale great". That is NOT to say that The Rising and several other releases weren't good, only that they aren't really on par with B2R, Darkness, River, Nebraska etc etc. For example, one could easily argue B2R is one of a handful of greatest albums in the history of rock n roll. I don't think you can quite say that for Rising or the others from say 1990 onwards. So it's all relative: I'm simply saying 2 things: first, those first 8 albums were insanely great (which is an astounding body of work by any measure) and second, Working On A Dream is outright lousy (musically, lyrically, creatively, production quality etc). That obviously does not diminish Bruce one bit. He's a towering figure in the history of Rock no matter how good or bad Working on a Dream is. Try to be objective, rather than blindly gushing over anything Bruce releases. Bruce is in the pantheon of music gods for sure, but certainly not because of Working on A Dream.
Marcus writes: The DVD is awesome. Even the unsuall daylight aspect seems OK for me. His voice is not the best but he definitively doesn´t seem tired. His performance is superb. I only wished, he had played Twist and Shout for last song after DITD, but I guess he already surpassed the curfew.:-)

Now this is just my opinion, when I saw Bruce later in the tour at the MSG #1, that was a great show! Lots of tempo, lots of energy, and what a good time! I'm just gonna hope and pray that the Darkness Box Set lives up to what we all want, and preserves the memory of Bruce & the Boys back in the days when they really made a name for themselves.

rd2 writes: If Bruce hadn't broken up the band, then we would have had the best of both worlds. We had Nebraska sandwiched in between 2 of Bruce's most popular albums.

This past decade has shown that Bruce can strike a balance between E Street and other projects. We missed out on a decade of seeing the E Street Band on tour and there are artists, Tom Petty being one who have continued to write, perform and remain relevant whilst continuing with the original band. In Petty's case he's written essentially solo albums yet toured with the Heartbreakers and pursued other projects (The Wilbury's, Bob Dylan)
Magnus writes: I think this question basically comes down to whether you think HT/LT would have been better with the ESB or not. And if so, how much. Is there any reason to assume that Bruce would have been more musically prolific, if the band had been around? Surely TGOTJ would still have been a solo album.
Marko writes: I have to agree about the Hyde Park sound, absolutely stunning. Barcelona was a muddy mix. As for the energy, HP seemed energetic to me!
Klaus writes: He started a family and found some kind of inner peace. Who know how f**ked up he would be today if he was a 60 year old who had newer learned how to put down the guitar? He made good use of the time - indeed.
adrian writes: how anyone can say bruce and the gang lack energy defies belief.this is a stunning show by an artist at the peak of his powers.
Dave writes: I disagree somewhat as for the sound quality. It´s certainly good, but lacks much of the strong bass you experience at the show. Compare to the sound of the bonus song The River and you know what I mean. The sound is much fuller.
Pete writes: My problem with Bruce breaking up the band was that in terms of the band records he put out in the 90's Human Touch and Lucky Town, the sound exactly like records he could have put out with the ESB, in a better fashion. So while I don't have a problem with the "other band" per se I just think Bruce kind of diminished his reputation by putting out albums that probably would have been better with the ESB. I think Joad is a different story, and whether one likes the album or not, it was the experiment Bruce was looking for, and I think it worked. However, as D&D showed, I think Bruce could have done his acoustic experiment without breaking up the band. So I do think the 90 were a pretty wasted period, and I think ESB would have been even more appreciated, had it had the chance to show off its skills while most of the band members were still in their playing prime.

Not that the last 10 years have not been great, but who would not have loved 10 more years of Clarence in health similar to or better then on the reunion tour?

I think the only downside might have been Steve not returning, and I think that might have been a sad trade off, but I can't honestly say that I would not take 10 more years of ESB music / tours if it meant no Steve. No disrespect to him, but still 10 more years of ESB albums / tours, am I alone in not being able to say I would not take them, even if it meant Steve would not be back with ESB?
Mike K writes: Versus Bruce's other official DVD releases, the sound on LIHP is virtually musical 3D. Everyone I've played this for has agreed. It's so immediate, TOTALLY clear, life like, hugely large yet not bombastic. One can quibble on the bass and drum mix, etc. I've played it numerous times over a quality home theater system and congratulate Bruce for appearing in my home every time.

Kevin writes: Gary & Terry: downloading and using torrents isn't that complicated and I'm sure that with a little time (like less than 30 minutes), you can master it. You need to download and install a bit torrent client. Then you can use Jungleland to download a torrent for the show you want. A torrent is just a small file that is "opened" with your bit torrent client (program) and contains information to connect you to the rest of the folks with the show. Now, once you download the show, there is the question about the files and what do with them. But that's another story and learning how to deal with the different file formats (.flac for example) is also easy. Good luck, don't give up, once you master it (and you will) - you'll quickly see that this is the best way to share and obtain bootlegs.
David writes: Have faith in the Torrenting.
