The show in Kansas City is canceled when Bruce's cousin Lenny Sullivan, who worked as assistant road manager, is found dead in his hotel room.
Spring 2010
Bruce is generally laying low - partly due to depression, as described in his 2016 autobiography - but does appear at several benefit shows, including the 10th Light of Day show, Gateway's Gala Benefit Concert, and not least the surreal Rainforest Benefit, where he is part of a lineup including Elton John and Lady Ga Ga and does the first Bryan Adams cover of his career: "Cuts Like a Knife".

Bruce delivers the keynote speech at SXSW music festival in Austin, TX. During the hour-long speech he talks about his own career and his influences and gives advice to young musicians. Later that night he and the E Street Band performs a full show at the Moody Theater in Austin as another warm-up for the Wrecking Ball Tour. The show becomes an loose all-star showcase with guest performances by Tom Morello, Eric Burdon, Jimmy Cliff, and Arcade Fire.
December 2012
Soon after the last show of 2012, Bruce undergoes major neck surgery to have some cervical discs replaced. The bad discs had caused him numbness in his left arm during the tour.
May-June 2014
After the High Hopes Tour Bruce heads to Europe for six weeks with his family to watch his daughter Jessica participate in show jumping competetitions. On May 29 he also performs himself in Lisbon, joining the Rolling Stones at their Rock in Rio show. It is during this vacation that Bruce again suffers from depression, according to his 2016 autobiography.

Bruce Springsteen's autobiography Born to Run is published worldwide. He has been working on it on and off since 2009. It is met with much critical acclaim that focuses on Bruce's revelations of his depressions and his father's mental illness.
