Bruce and Patti's second child, Jessica Rae, is born. The birth is announced by Little Steven to millions of TV viewers during his New Year's Eve performance on Time Square.

Bruce and Patti's third child, Sam Ryan, is born.

Not satisfied with only doing the Vote For Change Tour, Bruce joins John Kerry's campaign on the road and speaks and performs acoustically at political rallies in Madison, Wisconsin, and Columbus, Ohio. Two days later he makes repeat appearances in Miami, Florida.

Bruce's close friend and personal assistant, Terry Magovern, passes away. Bruce writes a song about him called "Terry's Song" that he performs at his memorial service and later includes on the Magic album.
January 17 2009
A few days before Obama's inauguration as president of the United States, Bruce participates in a tribute concert at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. In front of half a million people (his biggest crowd to date) he does "The Rising" backed by a gospel choir and helps out Pete Seeger on "This Land Is Your Land".
