The last dance

It was not a six-hour marathon with everything the fans wanted to hear, but with 28 songs it was the longest of the tour, and it did contain some solid surprises that fans have been dying to hear. First of all "Lost in the Flood", not played since it's one-off performance on the Darkness Tour, Sept. 1, 1978. And as the closer, "Blood Brothers", a song which could have been an anthem on the tour. Apart from that both "E Street Shuffle" and "The Promise made reappearances. From a setlist point-of-view it may not be what fans had hoped for, and the first reports indicate that Bruce's voice seemed tired and that the energy wasn't at the same level as at other shows at the Garden. But perhaps it was not the energy. Others believe it was the circumstances of the show being the last on the tour which made Bruce go into a more subdued and reflective mood. Whatever the case, perhaps the most important thing was Bruce's words, according to some sources, before singing "Land of Hope and Dreams": "When we started playing this song it was about the rebirth of the band and rededication to serve the audience. I hope we have done that in the past year and we'll continue to do so." And at the end of "Blood Brothers" he added: "We'll see you real soon". While there's nothing definitive in the statement, at least he didn't say it was the last show with the E Street Band ever.
