Patti gets to do one
Published 2007-09-26
Several changes in last night's rehearsal show: "Prove It All Night", "Born in the USA", "Badlands" were all added to the set along with the world premiere of "Magic". But the part that has really stolen the headlines was that Patti Scialfa got to sing "Town Called Heartbreak" from her new album. Actually, it was a duet with Bruce, but still, this was the first time since... I think... The River Tour that one of the E Streeters got to sing lead on one of their own songs. Of course, opinions are split. Some say it sounded really good. Others object to the mere thought of Patti even being on stage, let alone taking up a spot in the setlist that isn't too long to begin with. "Town Called Heartbreak" may be Patti's best song ever, but this probably shouldn't be a fixed part of the setlist. It won't take more than a few drunken Patti-bashers to really ruin the show for everyone. It is of course Bruce's show and he can decide exactly what he wants to do with it, but just because he can prove that point by letting Patti sing doesn't mean he should. Not if even the people who love Patti get their show ruined by those who don't. And in larger venues where people are probably a lot less respectful than at a rehearsal show for a few hardcore fans, the risk of that happening will be pretty big. Read the setlist and people's comments.
