Freehold in Boston

To the extend that "Meeting Across the River" and "The Ties That Bind" can be called standard, last night's show in Boston was a standard one when one looks at the setlist. Perhaps most surprising was the appearance of "Freehold". Just like in 1997 this song seems to become a regular inclusion even outside New Jersey. More on the Boston shows can be found at www.boston.com while the complete setlist is here. Read more

Bruce to make his acting debut?

Published 1999-08-18
By Karsten S. Andersen
For the zillionth time there are rumors of Bruce appearing in a movie. This time the rumor is brought forth by movie site Cinescape. They report that Bruce may appear in the new John Cusack movie High Fidelity based on a novel by Nick Hornby. He is allegedly doing a cameo playing himself in a dream sequence. If the rumor turns out to be false (as has happened so many times before), don't worry. The movie will probably still be worth seeing if it's half as good as the book. Read more

Those who had hoped for a four-hour marathon with lots of surprises for the last of the Jersey shows were disappointed. Bruce delivered a standard set sandwiched by "Jersey Girl" and "Rosalita", which was probably enough to satisfy the majority. The show was covered live by NJ Online where you can read more about the events. Complete setlist. Read more

At the last show it was on the setlist... last night it was performed. Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time since 1975: "New York City Serenade". The two other premieres were "Night" as the opener and "Sandy" as the closer. Tonight is the last show of the New Jersey stand. According to NJ Online, the stand will gross 26 million Dollars, everything included. Speaking of NJ Online, they will repeat the success of the first night and make a live coverage of tonight's show on the Internet. While we wait for that, check out the complete setlist for last night's show. Read more

In the middle of the Bruce tour, Little Steven today announced the release of his next solo album. It's called Born Again Savage and is available now from the Little Steven website where you can also hear an audio sample. The album is described as "a collection of 10 songs ferociously played by a hard rock power trio consisting of Steven on all guitars, Adam Clayton on bass, and Jason Bonham on drums". Read more

Only one tour premiere, but what a premiere!

"New York City Serenade" was on the setlist, but not played. "Frankie" was on the setlist and was PLAYED. For the first time since 1976! This was one of the most eagerly awaited songs from Tracks that finally got an airing. Apart from that the only surprises in last night's show was "Darkness" in the opening slot and "Spirit in the Night" as first encore. Again it was a relatively short set, 23 songs, which may have something to do with the rumors that Bruce injured his hand a few days ago. Complete setlist. Read more

Finally "Don't Look Back" premieres

After having been rehearsed many times throughout the tour, "Don't Look Back" finally made its tour debut as the opener in last night's show. It was not a world premiere since it was also played in 1977. Last night's other tour premiere (there seems to be two each night) was "Janey Don't You Lose Heart", which has only been played live twice before, in 1985 and 1993. Complete setlist. Read more

More interesting addtions and changes

It had to happen. For the first time on the tour, last night's show did not end with "Land of Hope and Dream". Instead Bruce switched "Thunder Road" and "Land..." around so that the former became set closer. One theory is that he did it to prevent the usual mass exodus during the last song. Other highlights included the tour premieres of "Adam Raised a Cain", which started the show, and "Be True". See the setlist here. Read more

More premieres as NJ stand gets two thirds on the

Anyone who doubted that the New Jersey stand would mean a huge shakeup in the setlist must have been convinced now. Every night sees at least one tour premiere, and last night there were two plus a rarely played "For You". The two tour premieres were a full-band electric version of "No Surrender" which kicked off the show, while the slot usually reserved for "The Ghost of Tom Joad" was filled with a beautiful version of "Back in Your Arms". Perhaps even more surprising was that Bruce actually gave the latter a spoken intro about letting go of a good thing, but not realizing it until its too late. See the complete setlist here. Please also check out the new reports we've had from people who've seen the shows. Thanks to everybody who contributed and please keep 'em coming. Read more

One tour debut in short show

Published 1999-08-03

"Something in the Night" was tour debuted in last night's show (first public performance since 1978), which contained only 22 songs and clocked in at 2 hours and 30 minutes, one of the shortest shows on the tour. The setlist also featured the reappearances of "Take 'Em As They Come" (only its second appearance), "Meeting Across the River" and "This Hard Land". But what's also interesting is that "Frankie" was soundchecked. Let's hope this one turns up soon. See the complete setlist. Read more
