The Light Of Day Foundation and its partners have announced the 6th Annual Light Of Day Concerts To Benefit The Parkinson's Disease Foundation (PDF) and the ALS Association, Greater Philadelphia Chapter to fund patient support programs. This year?s event will celebrate the life of Joan Dancy. Joan is the late fianc? of Terry Magovern, who has worked with Bruce Springsteen for more than 15 years. Joan passed away in July from ALS. The concerts will be held on Friday, November 4th, 2005 at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ and on Saturday, November 5th and Sunday, November 6th at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ. The Sunday concert will be a special Light Of Day / Writers In The Raw event, featuring well known singer/songwriters talking about and performing their songs acoustically. Bruce Springsteen has showed up all the other years, but of course, that doesn't mean he'll do it this year. Tickets are still available from TicketMaster. Read more

Time to get excited. At the recent Bruce symposium in New Jersey, the attendees were treated to a first showcase of a DVD that will be included with the 30th Anniversary edition of Born to Run. The DVD contains no less than the complete show at Hammersmith Odean in London from November 18, 1975, Bruce's first ever show in Europe. According to the first fan reactions, this we're in for a major treat. Work on the DVD has been going on for the last year with bits and ieces of old 16 mm film having edited together to a two-hour concert movie of allegedly exceptional quality. And when is this treasure going to be released? No date has been set yet, but the goal is to make it available for the Christmas shoppers. Read more

Last chance for now to see it is tonight, Sunday, but hopefully more people will get the chance. Read about it all in Asbury Park Press. Read more

The Born in the USA era has been both hailed and cursed by Springsteen fans. Now you can get the background for this magnificent, overblown, rocking, sell-out, wonderful album that created all the commotion. In a new book in the 33 1/3 series author Geoffrey Himes takes a look at the creation of Born in the USA and makes the case that it's Bruce's strongest. Be confirmed in this belief or see if he can convince you by getting the book. You can order it from Continuum Books when it's published later this month. Read more

Starting today the readers of Greasy Lake can now submit their own news stories to the site. If you think we're too slow or just have a piece of information you want to share with your fellow Bruce fans, this is your chance to do something about it. The idea was inspired by places on the internet such as Wikinews and Wikipedia where regular people collaborate on creating competitive news sources and encyclopedias. This isn't quite as open as those sites since we will be approving stories before publication, but hopefully it will ensure that Greasy Lake is always up-to-date and first with the latest. Read more and start writing. Read more

Several initiatives to help the hurricane victims in New Orleans and Mississippi have been launched in the online Springsteen communities. One of the more ambitious initiatives comes from Lee Miller of the rec.music.artists.springsteen newsgroup. In a collaboration with The Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans, he and his group will collect money and useful items among Springsteen fans and later travel to New Orleans to work in the local food kitchens. You can support the initiative by donating via Paypal to lee.mille@verizon.net. Lee Miller has previously been involved in raising money for the Kristin Ann Carr Fund and the Light of Day organization. Read more about his project. Read more
