New album in January?

Looks like we may be among the last to report it: there are strong rumors of a new album being released around January 20, possibly with the recently debuted song "Workin' on a Dream" as the title track. The album is allegedly another E Street endevour, with guests musicians, and with Brendan O'Brien once again at the control board. A Belgian radio station (which in 2007 was right about their Magic prediction) reports that it consists of 12 short rockers and that it will be followed by a short tour of Europe and the US. We shall see if there is any truth to this, but it does sound promising and not completely unlikely considering Bruce's last several years of hyper activity.

Proud moment for Bruce

Published 2008-11-05
By Karsten S. Andersen

Just as Barack Obama had finished his historic victory speech last night in Chicago and was leaving the stage with his family, the PA system blasted out "The Rising" to the assembled crowd of 200,000 people and billions of TV viewers. What a moment it must have been to Bruce.... not to mention Bruce's mom and kids. Bruce has done everything. Performed to crowds stretching as far as his eye could see, sold millions and millions of albums, played with the greatest legends, hung out with royals (and soon he'll even play at the Superbowl), but it's probably a pretty safe bet to say that last night was one of the greatest moments of his career and one that must inspire him to stay active and relevant for many years to come. Right now, however, he's probably preparing for tonight's benefit for the Bob Woodruff Family Foundation where he's scheduled to perform. My guess is that those of you with tickets will get to see a pretty giddy Boss. Congratulations, Bruce, congratulations, America, congratulations, World!

Bruce wrapped up his personal election campgain yesterday afternoon in Cleveland by debuting a brand new song dedicated to Barack Obama. The song was, most likely, called "Working on a Dream" and you can hear it right here:

Bruce playing for Obama in Cleveland

Published 2008-11-01
By Karsten S. Andersen

Like a lot of other people, Bruce is getting very antsy about the election on Tuesday and just can't sit still. When he's not recording weird Halloween songs in his barn, he's out there supporting Obama. That will also be the case tomorrow, Sunday, in Cleveland when he will appear at an Obama rally at "Mall A, B and C" on Lakeside Avenue. The event is free and starts at 3:45 p.m. You can read more on Obama's website.

Bruce throws Halloween surprise

Published 2008-10-31
By Karsten S. Andersen

Bruce may have cancelled his Halloween display at his house (see story below), but that doesn't mean he skipped celebrating Halloween altogether. Much to the surprise of everyone, yesterday saw the release of a brand new song and video called "A Night With the Jersey Devil". The song is very bluesy and features a bullet mic resembling the version of "Reason to Believe" from the Devils & Dust Tour. The video has a very devilish Bruce literally ascending from water and telling his spooky tale. For a little between-albums joke, this is very well produced and beats both of the videos made in connection with the Magic album by far. Watch the video below or go to the higher definition version on brucespringsteen.net, which requires Quicktime and a fast connection.

Loose ends and odds and sods

After a little break we're back with the important news that there will not... I repeat... there will not be a Halloween display at Bruce's house this year. Bruce says so himself on his official website. So if you were planning on going, please don't.

In other important news, a guy (it has to be a guy) with too much time on his hands has recreated a bunch of famous album covers using Lego. One of them is none other than Born in the USA by our favorite artist. The rest can be seen here.

Finally, sorry we missed the story on Bruce's double headliner show with Billy Joel the other night when they stood up for Barack Obama. You've probably heard all about it by now. If not, you can see the setlist here and read all the details on Backstreets.com.

Bruce plays songs and gives speech

Published 2008-10-06
By Karsten S. Andersen
Bruce spent his weekend playing music and giving speeches to large crowds in Philadelphia and Columbus. Armed with only an acoustic guitar, he entertained thousands of people gathered for Obama voter registration rallies. Apart from playing classic songs like "The Promised Land", "Thunder Road" and a cover of "This Land Is Your Land", he delivered a seemingly well-prepared political speech supporting the Democratic candidate and slamming the last eight years of "disastrous administration". Today he does the whole thing again in Michigan before calling it quits. See the setlists from Philadelphia and Columbus and the speech and part of the show in Philadelphia below:

Every day sees new appearances added to Bruce's election itinerary. This Sunday he will be in Columbus, Ohio, for a rally at Ohio State University's Main Oval, and on Monday he will appear at Eastern Michigan University. Free tickets for the former are already being distributed, but why don't you go to Backstreets.com to find out the details. They are always on top of the situation. Oh, and they also bring the news that Bruce will make his second appearance at the Standing Up For Heroes benefit at New York's Town Hall on November 5. Bruce was there last year too and gave away a Harley Davidson. Read more

Bruce to play Obama benefit

Published 2008-09-30
By Karsten S. Andersen
Earlier today it was announced that Bruce will perform at a Barack Obama benefit on October 16 in New York. He will join Billy Joel and other artists, and Obama himself, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in a show that is billed "Change Rocks" and which will benefit Obama's Victory Fund. Not a surprising move by Bruce after he announced his endorsement of Obama several months ago, but one that is likely to cause controversy like his involvement in the last presidential campaign. On that note, if you don't like this decision (not that Bruce probably cares much) and feel like making a comment about it here, try to use better arguments than "f* you Bruce" and "Bruce is a commie". They won't be approved, so save yourself the trouble. Anyway, tickets start at $500 and can be purchased from here. Oh, and according to American law, you need to be an American to contribute to an American presidential candidate so this is for US citizens only.. Read more
