Bruce on 60 Minutes

Published 2007-10-05
By Karsten S. Andersen
This Sunday, October 7, Bruce will be on 60 minutes, not least to talk about what he sees as his duty to speak out against the Bush administration and the political implications of the Magic album. The show is on 7:30 p.m. ET. Now, please don't swamp us with comments that Bruce should just shut up and sing. Bruce is political. Get used to it. It's part of rock 'n' roll to rebel against authorities, and since it would look downright silly if he still rebelled against his parents, it's gotta be the government. Where I come from, if an artist isn't left-wing he or she is not a real artist. It's just one of those things. If you don't agree with Bruce, just be happy that there's still something that keeps him passionate. Great music comes from it. Read more

Tour officially underway

The Magic Tour officially kicked off last night at Hartford's Civic Center. The setlist was very reminiscent of the rehearsal shows, including a very reworked and pretty mindblowing version of "Reason to Believe". Also, Bruce did not take my advice to drop Patti's moment in the spotlight with "Town Called Heartbreak", but maybe that's not so bad since, by most accounts, it works very well. Take a look at the complete setlist and the eyewitness accounts here. Read more

And it's out there!

Today was the day... or actually, if you live in Europe, yesterday was the day. The day when Bruce's new album Magic was officially released to the public. The reception from fans as well as press has been generally very positive. Several five stars reviews will grace Bruce's mom's scrapbook, but here and there a critic has completely misunderstood the whole thing and only gives an average review. You can see a few of them on our Magic page. There you can also read an interview from New York Times where Bruce talks about the new album. Happy listening! Read more

Bruce got dugg

Published 2007-09-30
By Karsten S. Andersen
Bruce's shot at the Bush administration during the Today Show performance got him on the front page of the largest social news site on the Internet, Digg. With thousands of stories being submitted every day, this is quite an achievement and an indication that he is being heard outside the usual fan circles. Of course, the fact that the story involved Bush bashing went a long way to secure him the 936 "diggs". Previous stories about his new video and tour schedule have received in the neighborhood of 1 digg. See what the Diggers are saying about our man. Read more

Bruce rocked the Today Show

Published 2007-09-28

Bruce sure put his mark on the Today Show this morning when he played no less than seven songs live from the Rockefeller Plaza in the heart of New York City. He even inserted a little political speech for good measure, just to piss people off who thought he was done with that! He also found the time to talk to Today Show host Matt Lauer where he talked about his thoughts behind the Magic album. See the whole performance here and the interview here. Read more

He did it in 2002 and in 2006 and now he will be doing it again: perform live on the Today Show. The event will take place this coming Friday, the 28th, and will be broadcast from Rockefeller Center in New York. By all accounts, Bruce and the band will perform five songs, three from Magic and two older ones. What time exactly he will be on, remains to be seen. You will just have to stick around for the whole thing. Read more

Patti gets to do one

Published 2007-09-26
By Karsten S. Andersen
Several changes in last night's rehearsal show: "Prove It All Night", "Born in the USA", "Badlands" were all added to the set along with the world premiere of "Magic". But the part that has really stolen the headlines was that Patti Scialfa got to sing "Town Called Heartbreak" from her new album. Actually, it was a duet with Bruce, but still, this was the first time since... I think... The River Tour that one of the E Streeters got to sing lead on one of their own songs. Of course, opinions are split. Some say it sounded really good. Others object to the mere thought of Patti even being on stage, let alone taking up a spot in the setlist that isn't too long to begin with. "Town Called Heartbreak" may be Patti's best song ever, but this probably shouldn't be a fixed part of the setlist. It won't take more than a few drunken Patti-bashers to really ruin the show for everyone. It is of course Bruce's show and he can decide exactly what he wants to do with it, but just because he can prove that point by letting Patti sing doesn't mean he should. Not if even the people who love Patti get their show ruined by those who don't. And in larger venues where people are probably a lot less respectful than at a rehearsal show for a few hardcore fans, the risk of that happening will be pretty big. Read the setlist and people's comments. Read more
