No big Grammies for Bruce

Published 2007-12-06

The list of Grammy nominees is in, and while Bruce is nominated in four categories none of them are truly heavyweight categories:
  • Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for "Radio Nowhere"
  • Best Rock Album for Magic
  • Best Rock Song for "Radio Nowhere"
  • Best Rock Instrumental Performance for "Once Upon a Time in the West"
So no Album of the Year or Record of the Year or Song of the Year. That honor could instead go to the likes of Rihanna and Amy too-much-Winehouse. Just goes to show how little the Grammies actually has to do with good music. Read more

Lawrence Kirsch, editor of the newly published For You book, will be interviewed on the popular (among Springsteen fans) Bruce radio show Bruce Brunch this next Sunday. The show airs on 105.7 The Hawk in New Jersey, but can also be listened to on the Internet. If you haven't heard about Lawrence and his new book, you can do some research on the official site or you can take it from me that it's a truly fascinating book that any hardcore fan will love. Arnhem show postponed

Tonight's show in Arnhem has been postponed till tomorrow due to Bruce having come down with a severe cold. In an officiel statement, it says that Bruce "is very sorry to have to postpone tonight, but does want to give the fans the show they deserve. And at this point, he feels he won't be able to do so. However, he is convinced his health will be recovered sufficiently tomorrow night, to perform 100% up to standards." This to my memory is the first time Bruce has postponed a show on such a short notice due to health issues with himself. On the Reunion Tour a show in Philadelphia was postponed on a short notice due to a hurricane, but other than that, this is a very rare occurence. Let's hope Bruce wll be back in top shape tomorrow. European tour kicked off

In a one-two punch Spain got the honor of hosting the first two shows of the European Magic fall tour. Sunday night in Madrid and last night in Bilbao. The energy level was, as is always the case in Spain, unbelievable although the setlists were fairly standard (if you can call setlists that include "Kitty's Back" standard), possibly due to the fact that this was Charles Giordano's first shows with the E Street Band in his temporary job as Danny Federici's stand-in. Tomorrow the tour moves to Milan in Italy, home of perhaps the most rabid and wild fans in the world. They are allegedly already lining up outside the arena more than 24 hours before showtime. The fall European tour hasn't even started yet before the next European tour is starting to materialize. Today Irish radio announced a show at the RDS for May 22, 2008. You can also read about it on the Aiken Promotions website. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale next Wednesday, November 28. This probably means that we can expect more European dates to be announced in the weeks to come. Read more

Danny takes a leave of absence

Published 2007-11-21

Bad news for the European fans and for the E Street Band: keyboardist Danny Federici will not be joining the tour overseas as he will be taking a leave of absence from the band. The temporary departure will allow Danny time to undergo treatment for melanoma, which is unfortunately a rather serious form of skin cancer. However, if everything goes well, he will be rejoining the tour further down the road. In a statement Bruce says, "Danny is one of the pillars of our sound and has played beside me as a great friend for more than 40 years. We all eagerly await his healthy and speedy return." He will be temporarily replaced by Charles Giordano, who played accordion with the Sessions Band. Not a bad substitution if there must be one. Read more about melanoma. Read more

Shorefire Media has announced a full North American spring leg of the Magic Tour. A total of 27 shows covering a good chunk of the US and parts of Canada. Most suspiciously absent are cities like Denver and Phoenix, but there are still gaps open where more shows could be added. Biggest surprise must be a show in Omaha, Nebraska, where Bruce hasn't played since 1978. See the complete tour itinerary. Read more
