The Live in New York City DVD has been pushed back a week, at least in Europe where it won't be released until November 12. According to Sony in Sweden the delay is due to problems with the sound on the second disc. In the United States the release date is still listed as November 6. In return for the delay, fans may see the inclusion of two extra tracks that are not listed on the official press release: "My Hometown" and "This Hard Land". This information is said to come from Sony in Australia, but we can't vouch for the reliability Read more

Springsteen fans censored

One of the oldest Springsteen message boards on the web, the AOL board, which is only accessible for AOL subscribers, has been the subject of a lot of attention this week. Members of the board have found themselves suspended after they protested the deletion of posts that included allegedly "vulgar" Springsteen lyrics. And no, we're not talking about "Red Headed Woman" or "Pilgrim in the Temple of Love", but such harmless lyrics as "Spare Parts" and "Pink Cadillac". Look what Springsteen friend and biographer Dave Marsh had to say to AOL. Read more

Two glorious nights at the Basie

Published 2001-10-20
By Karsten S. Andersen
As announced previously Bruce Springsteen was part of the all-star lineup at last night's first of two benefit shows at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank. Bruce, sporting a New York Fire Department cap, came on stage about halfway through the show and played "Tiger Rose" with Sonny Burgess, DJ Fontana and Scotty Moore, the two last-mentioned of Elvis fame. A little later Bruce came back on stage to do "All Just to Get to You" with Joe Ely, a song that Bruce contributed to on Ely's original studio recording. After that it was time for the first Bruce's first ever appearance with Joan Jett. Together they did a blistering "Light of Day", which was originally used as the title song in a movie in which Joan Jett played one of the main characters. Toward the end of the night it was time for Bruce's own set. He did "Bobby Jean", "My City of Ruins", "Land of Hope and Dreams" and "Thunder Road". Finally, most of the night's artists came on stage to do "Stand By Me". Friday night's show featured almost the same setlist as the night before. At least, Bruce's contributions were the same. In return the show was broadcast on CN8 and on the Internet. According to Asbury Park Press the two shows have raised more than 700,000 Dollars for Alliance of Neighbors of Monmouth County, an organization supporting families of the September 11 tragedy. Local TV network CN8, which can be viewed in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland and on the Internet, appears to be planning to broadcast the October 19 benefit show live. Check out their program schedule. In other news about the October 18 and 19 shows, Bruce is rumored to have written a song specifically about the WTC attacks that he will play at the Basie shows, but it could very well just be "My City in Ruins". Radio stations in the Washington DC area are announcing that Bruce will be part of the lineup for the October 21 "United We Stand" benefit concert at RFK Stadium. So far he's not on any official lists, but the feeling seems to be that he'll be there. If you decide to go to the show and Bruce doesn't show up, don't blame us for you having to sit through N'Sync, Michael Jackson, Backsteet Boys and others. On the bright side Kiss, Aerosmith and Mick Jagger will also perform. Tickets go on sale Friday of this week. Read more here. Read more

A CD titled God Bless America will include Bruce's "Land of Hope and Dreams". The CD, which we earlier speculated would be partly culled from the Telethon, is in fact an independent release by Sony with proceeds going to the Twin Tower Foundation. The version of "Land of Hope and Dreams" is the previously released live version from Live in New York City. Look for it in your record store on October 16. You can see the complete track list on Amazon.com. Read more

Just like last year Joe Grushecky will top the bill of the annual Light of Day Concert to Benefit the Parkinson's Disease Foundation (PDF). The concert will take place on November 3 at the Tradewinds in Sea Bright, NJ. Last year Bruce joined the lineup, but that doesn't mean he'll do the same this year. But there will be lots of other performers to make it more than worth the price of admission $30) including Boccigalupe and Joe D'Urso. Read more on www.pdf.org. Read more

Moving gesture by Bruce

Published 2001-10-09

The tragic attack on the World Trade Center has spurred countless of tales of heroism and human kindness. One of the most moving ones to all Springsteen fans happened last week when Bruce sent a video tape of himself playing "Thunder Road" to the funeral of a fan, Jim, who was killed in one of the collapsed buildings. On the tape Bruce dedicated the song to the fan's children telling them that it was their father's favorite song. Prior to the funeral Bruce had spoken with Jim's wife on the phone, and obviously the conversation must have made a deep impression on him. Read more
