"The Promise" biggest surprise on Night 9

Published 2000-06-30
By Karsten S. Andersen
When Bruce closed the second to last show of the tour last night, "The Promise" was the only song that had not been played previsouly during the Garden stand. Bruce did the song solo at the piano like the two other times he did the song on this tour. The show seemed influenced by the presence of a camera crew which hopefully is laying the groundwork for the rumored concert movie. Read more

"Back in Your Arms" is back

Again no tour or world premieires last night, but a couple of songs that got away were pulled back in. "Adam Raised a Cain" and "Loose Ends" made their only third appearance this year while "Mary Queen of Arkansas" was played for the third time altogether on the tour. But perhaps the most welcome comebacks were "Back in Your Arms" and "Blinded by the Light". The latter has not been performed since November 15 in Cleveland. Check out the setlist and the grade. Bruce did not chase ticket scalpers

Published 2000-06-27
By Karsten S. Andersen
A report in the New York Post that Bruce had personally been pointing out ticket scalpers to a police officer outside Madison Square Garden turned out to be false. Bruce's management denies that any such happening took place. Well, it would have been a little too good to be true, anyway. Read more

"For You" and "Night" make their 2000 debuts

There were no world premieres at last night's show at the Garden, but Bruce pulled out a couple of interesting items. "For You" has not been performed since October 23 in Los Angeles, and "Night" m ade its only second appearance on the tour, the first one being August 11 in New Jersey. "Another Thin Line" which was premiered last week again opened the show, and "Light of Day" turned into a mini-Detroit Medley when both "CC Rider" and "Jeannie Take a Ride" were included. Of other interesting notes, Billboard reports that Jonathan Demme shot a video for "American Skin" during the soundcheck. We also heard that his camera crew was present at the show itself, but that has not been confirmed. See the setlist and the grade. Read more

"Sandy" and "Bus Stop" make reappearances

On a night where Bruce took a break from debuting new material, he instead pulled out "Sandy" and "Does This Bus Stop" which both made their only second appearances on the tour. "Sandy" has not been played since August 11 in New Jersey. Other than that it was perhaps the most predictable of the Garden shows so far, but that does not mean it wasn't top-notch. Bruce premieres another new song

It keeps getting better. Last night's show opened with another Springsteen/Grushecky coproduction, probably called "Another Thin Line". Joe Grushecky was even onstage with Bruce, as was Soozie Tyrell for both "Youngstown" and "The Ghost of Tom Joad". The show also featured another tour premiere: "Secret Garden" was performed for the first time at a public show. The assorted rarities included "Incident on 57th Street" in the encores, "Sherry Darling" and "Something in the Night". Here's the setlist, the grade (new record) and the first eyewitness account. Fourth night with lots of audibles

It had to happen. Last night Bruce pulled out his two greatest New York City songs: "New York City Serenade" and "Saint in the City". Altogether, it was a night with many rarities, some of which were done as audibles. "Take 'Em As They Come", "Candy's Room" and "Growin' Up" all appeared for the first time during the Garden stand. On top of that, there was a guest appearance by Soozie Tyrell on violin on "The Ghost of Tom Joad". See the setlist, the points, and the eyewitness account from Ian Magid and the Balloon Man. Eyewitnss accounts that were submitted in the past days are a bit delayed. We hope they will be up by the weekend at the latest. Read more

"The E Street Shuffle" back after 25 years

Bruce pulled out one mighty tour premiere last night. "The E Street Shuffle" made its first appearance since 1975, even though Bruce introduced it as a song they had never played before (check the facts with your fans, Bruce!). The show also contained the last stand's first renditions of "Spirit in the Night" and "Racing in the Street" as well as the three new songs again. See the setlist, the grade, and the first eyewitness account. The soundcheck included several takes on two new songs, one of which was later identified as "I'm Not Sleeping", which Bruce co-wrote with Joe Gruschecky for his Coming Home album. Read more

Australian tour certain

Published 2000-06-17
By Karsten S. Andersen
So far Australia has been overlooked on the reunion tour, but according to Sydney newspaper The Daily Telegraph, Bruce and the band will definitely be in Australia, either in the fall or next March. The newspaper says the shows will take place at the Entertainment Center in Sydney. Of course, as usual this kind of story should always be taken with a grain of salt. Often they are prompted mostly by local promoters trying to promote themselves. However, one can only hope and speculate that the delay of the tour is due to Bruce and the band wanting to finish a new album before continuing on the road. Read more
