Bruce to cameo in British TV show?

British comedian Ricky Gervais is trying to recruit Bruce Springsteen for a cameo role in the new UK TV show Extras on BBC 2. The show is, according to Ricky Gervais' website "a new six-part comedy series set in the world of film and television and focussed in particular on the mundane tedium of life as a supporting artist." We doubt he will have luck with Springsteen, but Gervais also has his eyes set on Madonna and Steven Spielberg. Read more here. Read more
   

New Bruce book by Dave Marsh in the works?

According to a brief note on Richmond Times Dispatch's website Bruce friend and biographer Dave Marsh is working on a new book called Bruce Springsteen: On Tour. The book is allegedly due out next fall. Dave Marsh's last book about Springsteen dates back to 1987 when Glory Days, the sequel to the classic Springsteen: Born to Run, was released. A few years ago the two books were released as one with a new chapter added, but other than this, this new book - if the information is true - will be Dave Marsh's first major work about Springsteen in almost 20 years. Danny Federici album slated for July 26 release

E Street keyboard player Danny Federici's second solo album will be released on July 26 on V2 records. The title is Out of A Dream and is a return to Danny's jazz and blues roots. Apart from original compositions by Federici the album also contains a cover of Rolling Stones' "Miss You", which is also the first single, and a cover of Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door". No official Born to Run anniversary announcement

It wasn't an announcement for the expected 30th anniversary edition of Born to Run that the Japanese Sony site published the other day, as reported here. It was merely an announcement of Born to Run being released in the "mini-LP" cardboard packaging reissue series. That is, only a different packaging, the contents are the same. But the fact remains that we may still see some sort of anniversary release within the next few months. Read more
   

Sony Japan announces Born to Run anniversary edition

The official site of Sony in Japan appears to be advertising a deluxe Born to Run package to be released in August. The 30th anniversary edition will, according to the site, consist of three CDs: one with the album in a remastered version, and the two others with unreleased live footage, interviews and other bonus material. It is not known whether any of the discs will be DVD. Bruce is said to have been heavily involved in the project. It looks like the real deal, but check the site yourself if you don't believe us. Greasy Lake is back!

After a long break due to the webmaster's personal commitments, lack of Internet at the new Greasy Lake HQ, and being on the road to follow Bruce, we are now back in full swing with the latest news and rumors. Needless to say it has been a extremely frustrating not to be able to keep the site properly updated during a time when Bruce has been touring, but hopefully we will be able to catch up with everything over the next days and weeks. Bruce played Iceland

During a stopover at Iceland's Keflavik Airport on his way back home from his European tour, Bruce entertained airport staff with a mini-set of acoustic songs. The performance took place on Tuesday night only a few hours after the last note of Bruce's show in Berlin. It is not known exactly what songs were played, but according to some sources Bruce did "Dancing in the Dark", "Bobby Jean", "This Hard Land", "Working on the Highway", "Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?", "I'm on Fire", and "The River". More North American shows added

17 more shows have been added to the tour schedule. Starting in Ottawa, Canada, on July 13 the tour will continue for another month with another Canadian show, Vancouver on August 13. Hamburg and Berlin postponed

For unknown reasons Bruce has postponed his shows in Hamburg and Berlin this upcoming weekend. The shows have been postponed to June 27 and 28 respectively. Speculations are running wild as to what has caused this, but so far there is no official word on the matter. Read more
   

New Jersey Music Hall of Fame to open in 2006

At a press conference on May 16 plans for a New Jersey Music Hall of Fame to open in the summer of 2006 were revealed. Bruce will of course have his place in the new museum, but there will also be room for countless other artists who have contributed to the New Jersey music scene. The organizers behind this initiative are long-time compadres Gary Wien and David J. Mieras. The latter is known for his contributions to Greasy Lake and for being the actual Hazy Davy of "Spirit in the Night" fame. Read Greasy Lake reporter, Maureen Shames, report from the press conference.
