Bruce was working on this song in the studio next to where Patti Smith was working on her album. Smith asked if she could use this still unfinished song and got the permission. She finished the lyrics and released the song on her album, Easter, and even had a hit with it. Bruce himself didn't forget the song, but made his own version that he has performed live ever since.
